Dr. Phillip Barak, is the CalPrex inventor and a co-founder of Nutrient Recovery & Upcycling where he serves as the Science Director and Senior Scientific Consultant. With 40 years of experience working with nutrient cycles, Dr. Barak has published more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, including the peer-reviewed CalPrex WRF report, edited two books and been awarded five patents for nutrient recovery, four in phosphorus and one in nitrogen. Dr. Barak is also a professor in the Department of Soil Science at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and has taught soil fertility, plant nutrition and nutrient management to over 500 undergraduate and graduate students. He is a licensed professional soil scientist, has served as an expert witness in legal proceedings and is a member of the Soil Science Society of America and the American Chemical Society. Dr. Barak’s skills in solution chemistry and modeling are a cornerstone of NRU’s foundation and promise for the future of the company. He graduated from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
